Zak Starkey with The Who at the:
|
|back to The Who 1999 | |
Pete had performed solo benefit shows on Maryville's behalf in 1996, 97, and 98. This time the benefit show would be the full blown Who - Pete, Roger, John, Zak Starkey, John "Rabbit" Bundrick. The Who was able to present Maryville's Father John Smyth a giant $1,000,000 check. [Maryville Academy is a treatment center for abused and neglected children in the Chicago area]
This show was added after the first one (Nov 13th) sold out. Again this was sold via a wristband lottery at the box office only, on Oct 16th. This time, instead of actual tickets, the HOB box office issued "nontransferable ticket vouchers". A picture ID was needed at payment, and presented with the voucher on the night of the show to be able to obtain the real things. (2 tix max, $300.00 each). A small number of HOB hotel room w/tickets package deals were also available.
The band gave a 2 hour and 15 minute HIGH ENERGY SHOW!!

Pete's Official Website (launched Oct 1999) was shut down by Pete on Jan 28,
2002.His
retail site - Eelpie.com
remained up and running and assumed some of the announcement duties.
www.petetownshend.co.uk (.com) was re-launched on June 10, 2002, with a WHO
section in his "projects" area of the site, and once again became
the official outlet for Who Tour and Release info, stories, pictures, sounds
and video. At this time, most all of the "Pete's official site" content referenced
on my pages for 2000 through early 2002, cannot be viewed at eelpie.com or the
new petetownshend/who
site , although an archive of former pt.com materials was said to have been
in the works.
