2008 VH1 Rock Honors

July 12th, 2008 - Tape date - Los Angeles CA - Pauley Pavilion
July 17th, 2008 - Broadcast date - 9PM - VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD

It was announced March 25th that The Who, and ONLY The Who, will be celebrated during a two-hour broadcast to be taped July 12th in Los Angeles at the Pauley Pavilion.
TICKETS WERE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. A presale was held first for members of the official "thewho.com" on June 6th. That was followed by presales on the 7th for Ten Club members and members of foofighters.com. Tickets were offered to the general public via ticketmaster beginning June 8th. Tickets priced at $300, $125 and $65, plus there were a number of high end "VIP" (350-750$) and travel packages (2500 -2900$) available as well.

Rock Honors is donating the proceeds this year to: The Teenage Cancer Trust; The Double-O Charity; VH1 Save The Music; VH1 Classic Rock Autism.

The Foo Fighters, The Flaming Lips, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Tenacious D followed by The Who all performed a set.

Michael J. Fox Foundation special private benefit for Parkinson's - "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's". The "Waldorf Astoria" location and benefit name comes from a press report as to how this benefit served to create the current Who mini-tour in the first place. A different report notes that it is "An Evening of comedy and music" and will take place at The Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, with tickets starting at $2500.00.

The band played a 75 minute, 12 song set. They were joined on stage during Magic bus by Michael J. Fox on guitar. Said Fox "This is almost worth getting Parkinson's for".

Mini-Tour of Japan

Pete promised Japan in early, mid 2007, then squashed hopes in November 2007 via one of his blog postings. On June 20th 2008 the band announced that there would be a Japanese Mini-tour in November. A pre-sale via "thewho.com" should be announced shortly. The website was quick to note that the band has no intention of extending the trip to Australia or New Zealand.

Announced Oct 17th, these two shows are being billed as a 'thank you to members of thewho.com'. Purchase and entrance to the shows will have some enforced restrictions - namely passcodes for purchase, a strict two ticket per person limit total (across both shows!) and to gain entry the original purchaser must show the original credit card and photo id.
Tickets go on sale to fanclub members 11am Friday Oct 24th. £75 for Kings Row, £45 for Balcony seating as well as Floor standing.
IndigO2 is adjacent to the O2 Arena, and appparently seats 2,200.

Interestingly, thewho.com says that if all the tickets are not sold within 5 days, the rest will be offered to the public. This has raised some brisk discussions on other mailing lists - Will the public be held to these strict ID and 2 ticket rules??? If this is such a "Thank-you" for fanclub members loyalty, why am I allowed to join on Friday and buy on Friday? Shouldn't it have been offered to current members first? And basically the answer comes down to No - because these shows are being hyped to create a membership drive, with the dangling carrot being an intimate small venue show.

Announced Oct 29th, The Who will perform at the 2009 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The concert will be held following the race. Anyone with valid ticekets to the Grand Prix will be able to see the show at no extra cost. Premium tickets for the concert ARE available for an extra cost: ‘My Generation Platinum’ tickets at $225AU includes general admission entry to the Grand Prix on Sunday, 29 March as well as admission to an exclusive viewing area immediately in front of the stage. ‘Who Are You Gold’ tickets at $175AU includes general admission entry to the Grand Prix on Sunday, 29 March as well as admission to a premium viewing area, immediately behind the ‘My Generation Platinum’ viewing area and in front of the general patron viewing area. If you have 4-day general admission, grandstand or corporate tickets for the Grand Prix, you can also purchase a $76AU upgrade which allows them access to the ‘Who Are You Gold’ area. These premium tickets went on sale to the general public on Nov 3rd.
