The 2006 Euro touring plans were generally announced by Rollingstone.com on Dec 22 2005, and then confirmed by Pete in his Dec 24th Diary Post on his website. However, actual dates and on-sale dates where barely announced at all for the Euro starting dates - most cases they were leaked or well spotted by fans on various ticket sites. As of June 30th, 2006, no US tour dates for the Sept-Dec time frame had been announced. That all changed on July 13th with a press conference announcing dates and the special TheWhoTour.com website that offers access to first presales for a fee. For a membership fee of $60, your "Annual Platinum Membership" gets you first presale access to ONE SHOW ONLY to purchase UP TO four tickets. One shot only per membership. The site is being run by the same outfit that ran the Rolling Stones version. Also included is "Squeeze Box media player" with access to exclusive streaming media, email updates from the site and The Squeeze Box DVD of 2006 tour coverage. Many dates are also offering "Hot Seat Package" - where for an even HIGHER ticket price, you get a "Premium Top Priced Floor Ticket", and "exclusive Tour Gift Item" and a "Collectable Laminate"
The tradition of most shows being releases as official bootlegs via TheMusic.com has been expanded this time. The Who Encore series will not only include 2CD sets, but also DVD's! Available as single purchases, combo purchases, and deluxe and limited edition box sets, the proceeds go to charity.
PPV's of bits of most Euro Leg 1 shows were being shown on theWhoTV for a mere .99 cents! And, according to The Daily Mail (2006-01-12) BBC-2's "Arena" this fall will present an access all areas documentary on the Euro tour. Starting with Leg 2, Sirius Radio has been playing many shows the next night and others during down times.
